The monsoon season, though refreshing, can be harsh on the skin, especially for those with oily skin types. The increased humidity during the monsoon can lead to excess oil production, clogged pores, and skin breakouts, making it essential to take extra care of our skin during this time. But worry not, here are some home remedies that you can follow to maintain an oil-free skin during monsoon.
Oily Skin During Monsoon
Monsoon weather, characterised by high humidity and frequent rain, often triggers overactive sebaceous glands, leading to an increase in sebum production. Excess oil on the skin’s surface can trap dirt and impurities, clogging pores and causing acne and other skin issues.
Moreover, constant exposure to rainwater can strip the skin of its natural oils, further stimulating the sebaceous glands to compensate by producing even more oil. If left unaddressed, this can result in an unwanted shine, blackheads, and various skin irritations.

Lemon and Honey Cleanser
Lemon’s natural astringent properties can help control oil production, while honey’s antibacterial qualities can combat acne-causing bacteria. Mix the juice of half a lemon with two tablespoons of honey and apply it to your face. Let it sit for some time before rinsing off with lukewarm water. Use this cleanser twice a week to maintain clean and oil-free skin.
Cucumber and Yogurt Face Pack
Cucumber has a cooling effect on the skin and helps reduce excess oil. On the other hand, yoghurt possesses the capability to retain moisture effectively, as per a 2011 study by the Journal of Cosmetic Science.
To make a cucumber and yoghurt face pack, blend half a cucumber with two tablespoons of yoghurt and apply the mixture to your face. Leave it on for some time before washing it off with cold water. This face pack can be used once a week to keep oily skin in check.
Tea Tree Oil Toner
In a clinical trial conducted by the Australasian Journal of Dermatology, it was found that skincare products containing tea tree oil significantly reduced mild to moderate acne while being well-tolerated by the participants.
To make a tea tree oil toner, mix a few drops of tea tree oil with water and use a cotton ball to apply it as a toner after cleansing your face. This will help balance oil levels and keep your skin clear and blemish-free.
