Delhi Prepares to Prevent Dengue and Malaria Ahead Of G20 Summit

Onlymyhealth Tamil

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is implementing comprehensive measures to combat the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and chikungunya. These efforts are being intensified in preparation for the upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Delhi.

To address this health challenge, the MCD is mobilising a significant workforce consisting of malaria inspectors, Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs), field workers, and Public Health Department officials, who will carry out over 100,000 daily inspections. In addition, targeted initiatives and awareness campaigns are being rolled out across all city zones.

Key Steps Taken

Key steps taken to tackle mosquito breeding and disease transmission include:

1. Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) and Field Workers

More than 3,000 DBCs and 2,000 field workers are actively engaged in identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

2. House Visits and Anti-Mosquito Spraying

MCD staff have conducted an impressive 2,48,50,956 house visits and administered anti-mosquito spray in 7,89,995 residential properties. Additionally, 1,04,960 legal notices and 27,100 challans have been issued to enforce preventive measures.

3. Water Stagnation Awareness

Citizens are being encouraged to prevent water stagnation, as it is conducive to mosquito breeding.

4. Special Drives

Targeted campaigns have been conducted in high-risk areas, including construction sites, parks, nurseries, hospitals, schools, and government offices.

5. Mosquito Terminator Train

To control mosquito breeding near railway tracks, MCD has initiated a ‘mosquito terminator train’ in partnership with Northern Railways.

6. Larvivorous Fish Introduction

The MCD has introduced larvivorous fishes in 189 water spots to naturally control mosquito larvae.

Initiatives

In terms of public awareness, various initiatives are in place:

1. Audio Alerts

Waste collectors in all 12 city zones are broadcasting audio messages to inform residents about potential mosquito breeding sites and prevention measures.

2. Community Engagement

Resident Welfare Association (RWA) meetings and awareness rallies are being organised. Additionally, handbills, stickers, banners, and charts are widely distributed, with a total of 298 major awareness campaigns involving public representatives, RWAs, market associations, and the general public.

3. WhatsApp Groups

WhatsApp groups have been established to address complaints and disseminate information to raise awareness.

These proactive measures and extensive public engagement efforts demonstrate the MCD’s commitment to reducing the risk of vector-borne diseases in Delhi, particularly in anticipation of the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
