Onlymyhealth Tamil

Hair loss is a common concern that affects people of all ages and genders. While there are numerous products and treatments available, many individuals are turning to Ayurvedic remedies for their hair care needs. Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine originating in India, offers a holistic approach to hair care, focusing on natural ingredients and techniques. One of the most popular and effective Ayurvedic solutions for hair loss is the use of herbal oils.

Speaking to the team of OnlyMyHealth, Dr Ganesh Chaudhary, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), PHC, Darbhanga, Bihar, shared some of the best Ayurvedic oils for hair loss and how they can promote healthy hair growth.

Understanding Ayurvedic Hair Care

Dr Chaudhary said, “Ayurveda views hair as a reflection of one’s overall health, and hair problems are often attributed to imbalances in the body’s doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). To address hair loss, you should nourish the hair and scalp with specific herbal oils that are tailored to balance the doshas and promote hair growth.”

Amla is a powerhouse of essential nutrients and antioxidants. Amla oil is rich in vitamin C, which strengthens hair follicles and prevents hair breakage. It also stimulates the scalp, promoting hair growth and its conditioning properties add a shine to the hair.  This efficacy of amla oil has been established in numerous studies, including a research paper published in the Research Journal of Pharmacognosy, which concluded that amla oil has numerous benefits for the physical and chemical makeup of hair, and also has antimicrobial properties.

Coconut oil is a popular base for many Ayurvedic hair oils due to its nourishing properties. Rich in fatty acids, coconut also prevents protein loss, which is essential for healthy hair. When infused with curry leaves, it becomes a potent remedy for hair loss. Curry leaves are rich in antioxidants and amino acids that strengthen hair roots and promote growth.

While not a traditional Ayurvedic oil, rosemary oil is often included due to its ability to improve blood circulation to the scalp and stimulate hair follicles. It can be used in combination with other Ayurvedic oils for enhanced results.

Neem Oil

Neem oil is renowned for its antibacterial and antifungal properties. It helps maintain a healthy scalp by combating dandruff and infection, which can contribute to hair loss. A healthy scalp is crucial for hair growth.

Sesame Oil with Brahmi

Sesame oil combined with Brahmi, a herb known for its calming effects on the mind and its ability to reduce stress, makes an excellent choice for hair oil. Stress is a common factor in hair loss, and this combination helps address that issue.
