India’s Independence Day is celebrated with jubilant and patriotic fervour throughout the country. It’s a time to come together, commemorate our freedom fighters, and embrace the spirit of unity. With positive attitudes and levels of energy as high as our kites in the sky, we gather together to celebrate our country’s freedom. Maintaining energy levels and nourishing our bodies with good snacks is crucial during the festivities. While enjoying traditional goodies is part of the enjoyment, let’s also ensure that we eat healthful snacks to energise our bodies. To know more about it, we spoke to Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head-Dietetics, Max Healthcare, Delhi.
Listed below are four healthy yet tasty snacks that will energise your health and uplift the spirit of patriotism to another level:
Almonds
“A handful of almonds should be included in the morning meal to help one get off to a good start,” said Samaddar. She added that 15 valuable minerals, including vitamin E, magnesium, protein, riboflavin, zinc, and others, may be found in almonds.
“Almonds also serve as an excellent protein source, aiding in muscle mass development and upkeep while providing a valuable energy boost. As per findings published in the journal PLOS ONE, the consumption of tree nuts, encompassing almonds, has been associated with enhanced blood sugar regulation among individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes,” she said.

“So, one should embrace this healthy nut and include almonds in their cereal or add them to their bowl of oats or porridge or just munch on a handful to enjoy a tasty breakfast that will set the spirit on the right note,” she added.
Berries
“Indigenous berries like strawberries, raspberries, and mulberries offer a delectable treat while being rich in antioxidants. Many of these berries boast high fibre content, fostering a sense of fullness,” said the expert.
Citing examples, she said that raspberries stand out with a remarkable 8 gm of fibre per cup. Moreover, a single cup of berries ranges from 50-85 calories, contingent on the specific berry variety chosen.
“One can make a delectable pre-lunch snack by clubbing berries with Greek yoghurt, slivered almonds, or cottage cheese. They are packed with antioxidants which make them a great option to fill in the gap between breakfast and lunch as meals,” she suggested.
Tri Colour Smoothie
You can rejuvenate your mid-day with a tri-colour almond smoothie that represents the colours of the Indian flag. “Blend together frozen bananas, spinach, and a handful of almonds for the green layer, followed by a layer of vibrant mangoes for the saffron layer, and finally, top it off with a luscious berry blend for the last layer,” suggested Samaddar.

Sprouts Salad
“Mixing the regular salad of chopped tomatoes, coriander leaves, cucumber, and chickpeas with sprouts and adding lemon juice with an appropriate amount of salt and pepper can make for a tasty snack both for children and elders,” said Samaddar.
She added that it will be a wholesome meal put in a bowl to hog on while enjoying the fresh air and smelling the freedom and unity that spreads on the day.
